Brats and Sauerkraut

So, what was the first thing I made with the apples? Sauerkraut! While we were visiting the apple sheds and then went searching for the German Bakery, Cafe and Grocery!

What's not to like in a German Bakery and grocery?

This was a really fun experience. There was such a variety of food and many "fun" items in the bakery.

It was really difficult to select what I wanted! We decided that a pastry and a cup of coffee would be a good thing.

There were many plaques with great sayings that had the Kitchen Gnome and me laughing. We immediately thought of my grandpap, my dad and all of his brothers...."Living with a German builds character!" I mentioned that I immediately thought of my Uncle....with one quizzical look from the Kitchen Gnome I understood. He has been building character living with me! That's okay, Germans are a tough lot. I can take it!

I was amazed at the many types of bread available as well as all of the sweets...not to mention the sauerkraut, pickles, mustards, and of course, beer!

I enjoyed my visit to the bakery. I enjoyed bringing home brats. I knew that they would be dinner that evening!

Anybody need a cow hat with horns and a bell?

Moving on to the brats and sauerkraut....delicious!

Delicious!

Now on to what I am really going to make!

  3. Brauts and kraut are two of my favorite foods. And that's some bakery. I really miss a good, heavy German bread and some cheese. OK, now I'm hungry.

  4. Oh yeah! Love German food. My mother was crazy about springerle cookies- always got her bags and bags full. Never tried to make them myself though.

  5. As you know, my mother was a proud Bavarian and she also owned a German Delicatessen (I used to work in it, as a kid in Lederhose with heart pockets!) How I wish this bakery was in my own backyard. We don't have anything like this in Monterey. If I'm ever in your neighborhood, I'll have to meet you there!

  6. Oh how I love sauerkraut! I wish I wasn't the only one in my family to enjoy it! I always just buy it. If everyone liked it I'd make some from scratch.

Look like a lot of fun!
